JBW Consulting Engineers is a consulting engineering firm with locations in Duluth/Hermantown, MN and Gillette, WY that provides design and engineering services for clients in the industrial, energy, and infrastructure sectors across North America. We are currently searching for a Mechanical Designer to join our team. Primary focal points for this position include performing a wide range of drafting tasks and preparing plans, layouts, assembly drawings, detail drawings, and sketches as directed by engineers.

JBW is searching for a Mechanical Designer to join our team. Primary focal points for this position include performing a wide range of drafting tasks as directed by engineers. Up to 10% travel to project sites out of state is required. Strong communication skills with the internal team are essential. Secondary focal points for this position include the ability to work independently on projects while contributing as a team player. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a track record of accountability.

The Mechanical Designer is responsible for creating and maintaining accurate designs and drawings along with archives and revision history. This role will execute timely and accurate drawings for a variety of clients under the supervision of the project manager. They will also be responsible to deliver complete and accurate drawings within schedule parameters as well as proactively providing status updates, discussing challenges, and addressing plan revisions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide range of drafting tasks

  • Prepare plans, layouts, assembly drawings, detail drawings, and sketches as directed by engineers

  • Knowledge of building codes, federal transportation regulations, development of details, and the organization of construction documents

  • Revise existing drawings as required and correct "As-Built" drawings

  • Conceptualize and design in a CAD Technician II role and communicate successfully in CAD using current industry standards

  • Responsible for maintaining accurate design and drawings archives and revision history

  • Effectively communicate while working in a team environment across multiple office locations

  • Obtain a general understanding of any project goals, constraints, and schedule requirements

  • Proactively provide status updates, discuss challeneges, and address plan revisions

  • Deliver complete and accurate drawings within scheduled parameters

  • Compute calculations under the direction of a designer or engineer

Requirements

  • AAS degree in drafting and design, engineering, or related field

  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience

  • Previous discipline-focused experience preferred

  • Oil/gas industry experience preferred

  • Have an intemediate understanding of AutoCAD

  • Moderate skillset in Autodesk 3D products (Civil3D, etc.)

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Must have a good mathematical background to handle common calculations

  • Willing to learn new skills and work as a team to meet deadlines

  • Willing to travel up to 10%
