Access Platforms With an Integrated Motor Lift

Project Summary

JBW was retained to provide structural engineering and design services to build access platforms with an integrated motor lift. The purpose of the access platforms was to allow plant personnel to safely access valves that were difficult to reach. The purpose of the integrated motor lift was to allow plant personnel to safely swap out a 600lb motor that was 6ft above the plant floor. The challenge faced in this project was fitting the platforms and motor lift into the existing area while maintaining structural engineering constraints.

 

JBW made the trip to the plant to analyze the area where the platforms and motor lift were to be installed. Sketches, point clouds, and photos were taken of critical equipment and plant area constraints. Drawings were collected from equipment manufacturers and the plants on existing equipment.

The platforms and motor lift material sizes were based on the loading of the 600lb motor with a minimum safety factor of 2. The platforms and motor lift were designed and verified with Revit and Point Clouds.

JBW maintained communication with the equipment fabricators and worked with them to resolve any issues during construction.
